The Story
In 2017, Emily transformed her deep passion for crafting beautiful, one-of-a-kind, handmade art into Crystal Mermaid Creations with the goal of forming a new branch of jewelry: sunken treasure sea alchemy. Her journey as an artist blossomed alongside her love for Hawai‘i and its beautiful ocean. Beginning with wire wrapping, she soon immersed herself in the intricate world of electroforming, a unique and captivating process that has since become her signature style.

“When my husband and I first came to Big Island ten years ago, we fell in love with its vibrant reefs. Every day, we’d spend hours freediving, combing through sea caves and rocky shores in search of seashells and hidden treasures.”

It was during these underwater adventures that the concept of sunken treasure jewelry began to take shape. “I’d imagine finding a centuries old piece of jewelry lost to time, its story whispered by the waves. Around the same time, I was diving into the world of crystals and their fascinating properties, which deepened my appreciation for nature’s treasures.”

Inspired by her love for the ocean and the natural world, Emily’s creations began to reflect this connection. Using seashells collected during beach cleanups and freediving expeditions (always ensuring nothing is taken alive), she paired these coastal gems with high-quality crystals, bringing her vision of merging nature’s beauty with art to life.

“As the years passed, I kept returning to the image of a long-lost artifact—something that had weathered in the ocean’s currents for centuries, its surface caressed by saltwater and embraced by coral. The idea fascinated me, and when I discovered electroforming, I knew I had found the perfect way to turn that vision into reality.”

Through relentless self-teaching, experimentation, and an ever-growing understanding of the electroforming process, Emily honed her craft and brought to life what may be the world’s first sunken treasure jewelry line. Her pieces echo the allure of the deep sea, with textures and details that seem as though they’ve been shaped by the tides themselves.

“I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve created so far, but my journey as an artist is far from over. I’m constantly experimenting with new styles and techniques to push the boundaries of what I can offer. The future is brimming with possibilities, and I can’t wait to share what’s coming next!”
